In this edition of this book,it presents child activity recognition and tracking system using RFID technology and GPS and GMS to prevent child accidents such as unintentional injuries at home and missing cases. It is an Android based solution to aid parents to track their children in real time. Nowadays, most mobile phones are equipped with location services capabilities allowing us to get the device's geographic position in real time. It allows the parent to get their child's location on a real time map. The system consists of two sides, child side and parent side. The application works with the help of android mobile. The android application based on GPS and SMS services in Android mobile.
The main purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the use of SMS in transmitting waqf basic information amongst adult learners. The method used the Solomon Four Group Design and questionnaires with 4-point Likert scale technique. Eighty adult learners from the School of Distance Education, USM participated in this study. The involvement of the adult learners in this study was voluntary and randomly assign for each group. The adult learners were divided into four groups which were two experimental groups and two control groups. The experimental group received SMS and the control group did not receive SMS. Data were analyzed using t-test analysis, two-way ANOVA analysis and descriptive analysis. The findings showed that the usage of SMS is effective in improving the level of adult learners' achievement on waqf knowledge. Generally, the usage of SMS was acceptable amongst adult learners in transmitting waqf knowledge. The findings therefore suggest that the usage of SMS can be utilized as one of the tools in delivering of Islamic knowledge to the public.
Nowadays wireless communication has become ubiquitous around the world and its application for gauging energy consumption by customers is rapidly gaining pace, not only in the developed world but also in the developing countries. This book presents the design and implementation of an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system using Arduino Uno and wireless communication based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) standard. The aim is to monitor, accurately read an energy meter and automatically transmit the reading (energy consumed) wirelessly to the energy supply company's billing office using Short Message Service (SMS). The design and implementation is carried out in four stages, literature review, software design and programming, hardware block testing, and the complete system testing. The software design is done with Proteus Professional 8 and the sketch (program) is written and uploaded to the Arduino Uno using the Arduino software IDE. The main hardware consists of Arduino Uno (a microcontroller-based board), an energy meter, SIM900A GSM module, a SIM card, Step-down Transformer, 16x2 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), a bulb and a mobile phone.
The goal of this book is to implement sensors network system by supervising the state of the environment and the sensors at any building remotely with a mobile phone and to receive alerts on intrusion and movement around restricted premises. The goal was achieved successfully. The devices were controlled by using Arduino microcontroller and the alerts were received as an SMS. A hall effect proximity sensor and a passive infrared sensor and light sensor and distance sensor and vibration sensor and sound sensor were used as detectors to detect the intrusion and movement and the rest of functions to other sensors around and the restricted premises respectively.
Agriculture is one of the major activities to achieve the targets of rural development particularly in those countries where agriculture is considered as the main engine of growth for rural economy. The major problem was to bring improvement in the quality of life of rural people without ICTs services and applications. In rapidly changing local and global agricultural market and price mechanism, it is difficult for traditional and poor farmers to maintain their farm productivity and competitiveness in the local and global market, without using the advanced technological information which is cost efficient which ensures high productivity. There is dire prerequisite to rethink in agricultural extension strategies. By using modern ICTs, farmers will become able to get information via telephone, toll-free no., cell phone, robo calls, SMS and internet for better input application, cropping decisions, management of pest and diseases, animal husbandry and marketing. The government should start regular ICTs program like applications robo calls, SMS etc. to ensure timely availability of agricultural information to the farmer and also established of Information Hub Center (IHC)/Kiosk.
Garbage played a vital role at public places. To manage these are very important task. To overcome such situations, it was planned a project called Garbage Leveling Using Embedded System and overflow indicator using GSM technology. This garbage having sensor in the dustbin, as the garbage level reaches to the threshold value, crusher try to crush garbage otherwise a Message will be sent to the respective Municipal / Government authority person. The collection vehicle to collect the full garbage bins or dustbins can called for it. This electronic system will help municipal officer or the government authorized person to monitor the status of dustbin. To overcome these situations, with help of this project the government authority person can get SMS immediately.
